Cody Brant has been known as Flaspar since he was 16 years old. Now, over a decade later, Flaspar continues to grow and morph into different projects. As a Band, Flaspar has had several different line-ups in Las Vegas and now in Portland, Oregon. They are constantly releasing Cds, Eps, 7"s and an infinite supply of MP3s as well as planning shows and tours.
It is obvious that Brant's artwork comes from the same place as his band's experimental rock which, at times, leans heavily on the psychadellic sounds of the 60's and 70's.
His collages were started when he was working in a record store, before Flaspar was the prolific beast of sound and craft that it is today. Many of the collages appear to be prototype album artwork for Flaspar Lps.
The album covers that he used (for most of the pieces) came from the heaps of records the shop would reject buying, daily. His other source of inspiration came from magazines he stumbled upon in the attic of an old house his father purchased in Marion, South Carolina.
Taking from the artwork that was already on these out-dated trash-records and incorporating other imagery from the eras they came from -seemingly from another world- he creates wild, ridiculous and unsettling pictures. People, animals, slogans and everything else become even more disturbing and hilarious than they already are.
